ON FRIDAY, September 4, the revamped Barry Athletic Cricket Club Youth Section held their presentation evening that was attended by over 70 children and parents in what was a fun filled night compered by club secretary Mark Rees.

The main focus of the evening was built around some of the events and activities the section had been involved in throughout the season. On June 20, the club were asked to be Guard of Honour at the T/20 Blast game Glamorgan v Sussex, the Family Fun Night that was held and attended by over 100 children and parents on July 17, but the main focus of the night was the sponsored walk that the section did on Sunday, August 16, from The Athletic Ground, Barry Island to The SSE SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff, a walk that raised nearly £500 for the Youth section.

A special award went to Wesley Baker as Assistant Coach of the Year for all his hard work.

Junior sessions have been very well attended on a Tuesday night with many parents staying to watch the enthusiasm and joy on the children's faces in the sessions with the summer ones now finished. The section will be doing a Bag Packing Day on Saturday, November 21, with winter indoor training starting in January at The Colcot Sports Hall on Sunday afternoons 2pm to 3pm. The club would also like to thank Filco, Asda, Cricket Wales, Glamorgan CCC, Barry Communities First, Waitrose, Sport Wales and Vale of Glamorgan Council.

A big thank you goes to Rudierhi Smith and James Kettlebrough of Glamorgan who were in attendance on the evening to make the presentations to the Youth section.

Mark Ellis, Youth coordinator commented “This was a really enjoyable evening for the youngsters, at the start of the year there wasn’t a youth section but with support from Mark Rees, Tom Miller, Tom Davies and Ashley Baker we have held cricket training sessions every Tuesday evening. We have also been able to host some special events including a sponsored walk, a Family Fun Night and a visit to the SWALEC stadium where the youngsters were guards of honour at a Glamorgan 20/20 game. Cricket Wales and Glamorgan have backed us all the way and next year we hope to make further progress”.
