BARRY Town United were left all shook up at the weekend, as a late goal from opponents Goytre FC denied striker Elvis Menayese his first Welsh League winner.

The Cardiff City youngster, on loan at Barry, had given Gavin Chesterfield's promoted side the lead from close range in the first half of Saturday's match at Plough Road.

However, the hosts capped their own comeback special with a stunning second half equaliser; denying the Town a South Walian trilogy of consecutive away wins.

Barry's Man of the Match was another with Cardiff connections, in the form of ex-Bluebirds defender and current Barry assistant manager Damon Searle.

Searle, a former Football League mainstay with over 400 appearances at clubs from Southend to Carlisle, has been an invaluable figure to call upon during the Town's recent injury crisis.

In a further positive note, last season's top goalscorer TJ Nagi enjoyed his first competitive appearance of the new campaign on Saturday; making a second half cameo from the bench.

This weekend, the Barry squad enter the Welsh League Challenge Cup, with Tata Steel providing their First Round opponents at the Tata Sports Ground, Port Talbot (SA12 2NF).

Travelling supporters are advised of the earlier 2pm kick-off, with the tie to be settled on the day via extra-time and penalties, should they be required.

The Jenner Park outfit were semi-finalists of the competition in both 2009 and 2010, most recently capturing the second-tier trophy in 1994.

The next Division One fixture for sixth-placed Barry will be on Friday, September 11, at Taffs Well (7.30pm).
