CLUB championship day at Brynhill Golf Club was another fabulous day of golf.

Steady and patient golf claimed a victory for Matthew Mulooly over Scott Bowman for the Brynhill title.

Scott has appeared in 12 club championship finals and has won a fantastic seven times. The weather was perfect for the occasion and the course was presented in pristine condition by Iain Grant and his staff.

There were many spectators gathered on the first tee waiting for the finalists. A visit by retired president Peter Hayman was much appreciated by the finalists and spectators.

Keith Atkinson, the club president, and wife Brenda followed the matches all day and thoroughly enjoyed the event.

It was a nip and tuck round which ended all square on the 18th hole. The afternoon round commenced after lunch.

Matthews metronomic consistency gradually wore down Scott's dogged resistance. Matthew went four up after the tenth.

At the 14th Matthew retained a three up lead until eventually winning the match on the 16th hole. The caddies were Sam Preston for Matt Mulooly and Huw Wigley for Scott Bowman.

The club captain Rhys Jones refereed the match. The match was played fairly and in the true spirit of golf. The captain said it was an honour to referee a match between two great golfers.

On the same day there were three other very important matches including the Ernest Williams match.

Wayne Adams with his caddie Richard Bond and Craig Balchin and his caddie Aaron (Mr Cool) Smith faced each other.

This match teed off after the club championship and was a fantastic game of golf. Wayne had to give Craig six shots and Wayne made the quote of the day going down the seventh fairway when he asked if Craig had a shot on the hole when the answer was yes given by the referee John Giles, Wayne asked when was Craig going to give him a shot.

Craig was up one after the first hole after a fantastic second shot from the trees to the green and was three up after scoring a birdie on the sixth.

Craig stayed three up until the eighth, then Wayne pulled back two holes. The match was steady but exciting with Craig three up after 14.

At the 15th Craig hit a monstrous drive and a second shot to the green. Wayne put his second shot into the bunker where the match finished with Craig winning four and three. The golf was superb to watch.

John Giles said the level of golf was amazing. The caddies were exceptional with Craig's caddie being nicknamed Mr Cool with his vibrant coloured t-shirt and sunglasses.

The Hugh Howell (midway) match was between Cael Pemberthey with Dan Williams as caddie, and Mike Bird with caddie Simon Pringle. Referee was Matthew (Tomo hopalong) Thomas.

Another hard fought match with a nervous start by both players, Mike was one up after six. On the 13th Mike played a provisional ball off the tee after losing his first ball and ended up four on the green.

Cael was two on and won the hole gaining a one up advantage. Cael was then three up after 15 and with pressure mounting both players had to play a provisional ball off the 16th tee. They both found their first balls but Cael sealed the deal with Cael winning three and two.

The Chief Buck Rabbit match was played between Bradley Dodd and Clive (Blakey) Blake.

Bradley and Clive battled it out to be the chief buck rabbit. It was a close match all the way with a fantastic camaraderie between players.

The referee Hilary West was impressed with the level of golf and commended both players. The game finished on the 17th green showing what a close contest took place. Caddies were Scott Nelson for Clive Blake and Colin Lewis for Bradley Dodd.
