HIGH flying Pontymister Cricket Club came to Burnham Avenue as Sully Centurions tried to get their season back on track, but the home side were unable to match the visitors in all departments and once again fell short.

Centurions batted first and were soon up against it, losing both openers, Ted Alsop (12) and Calum Thomas (5) with just 22 runs on the board.

Things got worse with a string of low scores and no less than four ducks, as wickets fell with some regularity.

Only Santosh Singh (33 not out) and Gareth Thomas (22) showed any resistance and the inevitable end came in the 23rd over, with the score on just 90. Salman – with the excellent figures of 6-30, did most of the damage for Pontymister.

Pontymister took only 10 overs to get the runs, for the loss of only one wicket – with Santosh Singh again getting in on the act by holding onto a catch to dismiss Abbas for 50 off the bowling of Alsop.

With only three league matches remaining, things are looking bad for Centurions, and they will be looking to bounce back at Creigiau this week.

Sully Centurions 90 all out Pontymister 94 for one

The seconds travelled to Pontymister and lost out in a close fought encounter to the Pontymister second string.

Batting first, openers Dave Sylvester and Ricky Griffett put on 87 for the first wicket, when Sylvester was bowled by Harvey for nine.

Lewis Pyke (33) joined Griffett and they continued the good work until Griffett was caught behind for a well-made 68 off the bowling of Turner. Mark Burnett hit an entertaining 20 not out as Centurions batted the overs out for a respectable 172 for four.

After tea the home side set about the task of chasing down the target and made good progress, with openers Hughes (62) and Brown (42) sharing a century partnership. Jones 34 not out) and Lancaster (22 not out) carried on where their team mates had left off and saw Pontymister home without any further losses.
