FOR the first time this season Cadoxton ‘A’ were able to field a full side. They have stuck together through all the trials and tribulations to keep the flag flying.

At their match they showed what can be done with a full compliment, at Millwood in the CML7.

Howard Hellyar’s rink led the way with a convincing win against the rink skipped by Alan Hardwick. They were in front throughout the game although a five was conceded on the tenth end, after they had reached 13, to make the advantage 13 – 10.

However, this was with just one shaky moment, in an otherwise resounding performance.

Ian Heppenstall also had success against Joe Butler’s four. The start was not in the visitors favour five losing ends to trail 9-0.

Nevertheless, once they got used to the green they commenced the comeback and by the 15th end the score was level at 12-12. The ascendancy continued with two threes which were enough to hold onto a narrow one shot win.

The other two rinks skipped by Alan Carpenter and Dave Fanning both followed the same course with slow starts but coming good as the game progressed. Unfortunately they each failed by just one shot to make a complete recovery.

The aspirations for promotion for Cadoxton are slowly disappearing following the latest match at home against Belle Vue.

Although three of the rinks had success, the fourth rink skipped by Howard Craven found opposing skip Dave Purser in outstanding form and as a result a heavy defeat entailed. This was too much for the other winners to cover.

Roy Harding had a bad start and trailed 4-13 before a five started a comeback. The upsurge further included two fours and two threes to ensure a comfortable victory.

Don Kuhnell’s rink surged into a 7-1 lead, and with a four two ends later held a 11-3 advantage, against the rink skipped by Paul Peterson.

The supremacy was reduced by the 13th end to 12-8, but once again a commanding lead was made with a three and two.

However the game changed, when an atrocious wick by the opposing rink took the shot, leaving Cadoxton with five seconds. They continued the game playing a full length jack and came right back into the game, but Cadoxton narrowly hung on for the rink win.

John Jones also built up a substantial lead on his rink, of 16-6, against Malcolm Thomas, by the 15th end. However, they too had a shaky run in with 10 shots dropped whilst three were scored. Even so they did enough to win the rink.

The final Munro Cup game of the season was a home game for Cadoxton against Barry Athletic.

The rink skipped by Howard Craven was matched with Dave Snelling. After five ends the visitors had shot into a 12 – 0 lead.

However by the time a five was collected on the eighth end the home side had reversed the dominance to lead by three shots at 15-12. The ascendancy continued with seven shots against four in the remaining ends.

The rink skipped with opposing skips Gordon Davies and Geoff Whittaker was completed with nine wins each, but the visitor’s successes were mainly threes and fours whereas the home team scores were mostly singles.

John Jones rink scored a two on the first end against Brian Whitlock, but the next success was a single on the eighth end with the score at 3 – 11. The remaining 10 ends produced six wins for the home side but all singles.

Ivor Robertson made a good start against Jim Davies with six winning ends from the opening seven, but the losing end was a four which left the advantage 7-4. Only two further singles completed the home sides scoring.
