CADOXTON Bowls Club travelled to Roath Park, with a team missing some of their regular players, on a glorious, sunny day.

They were hoping for another win to keep their standing near the top of the division. Unfortunately their aspirations were unfounded and managed just one successful rink.

This was skipped by Roy Harding and after losing the opening end a ding dong battle ensued and they held the lead for virtually the remainder of the game, but never managing to open a substantial advantage.

The scores were level when a break was taken for tea. On the resumption a three scored, which was cancelled out with a five left them behind for the only other time. A four on the next recovered the advantage which was held until the end.

The overall picture was not so rosy with the home side taking a lead from the off, and never relinquishing it throughout the game.

At the tea break the deficit was 32 shots, which worsened to 41 shots after 15 ends. It was at this stage that Cadoxton started to improve on all rinks, but too late to make any major impact.

The main change came on the rink skipped by John Jones. After conceding a six on the 14th end to leave them 13 shots behind they counteracted with a six and continued improving to draw level going into the final end.

Regrettably a single against took the two points. Don Kuhnell’s rink was successful on the last six ends, but all singles. Howard Craven also made a late recovery with wins on the final five ends.

I Heppenstall, I Robertson, G Davies and D Kuhnell 14 –22

P Swannick, D Evans, K Chedgzoy and R Harding 19 –16

E Heppenstall, P Ellis, D Brook and J Jones 25 –26

G Solomon, L Adams, D Jeffries and H Craven 15 –26

73 – 90

It was the same old story for the Cadoxton ‘A’ side at home to Murch ‘A’, three players short, and another defeat in the CML7.

The good news was that Dai Tuck was able to resume playing and he assisted skip Graham Garland, returning after a few weeks absence, with Rob Byrne completing a ‘winning’ Triple.

They conceded a four and three in the early stages, but by the fifth end the scores were level.

An eight end successful run brought the score to 18-8 in their favour. Then five more wins whilst conceding three times finished the game.

Dennis Hammond managed just two wins in the first nine ends to trail 4-15, but was better in the remaining ends, scoring 12 shots with 10 against.

Alan Carpenter skipped the only complete rink but scored just two singles in the opening eight ends, leaving them 2-16 behind, and Dave Fanning also had a bad start with a four and five against on the opening ends neither rinks made a recovery.

The visit to Sully for this Munro Cup match ended with two winning rinks each.

Ivor Robertson skipped the rink against Dennis Edwards and started with a 5-1 advantage after four ends. This was cancelled out during the next two at 5-5.

At this stage the Cadoxton rink took command and completed the game with just one further single against.

Unfortunately this big success was cancelled out on the Howard Craven rink, by the rink skipped by Hugh Levick-Jones. They scored nine shots without reply during the first four ends. The visitors managed only four successful ends during the game.

Gordon Davies skipped a rink against Dave Curtis and with Paul Swannick making a good contribution, reached 13-7 with two ends left. A four against on the next left a jittery last end, which went to the home side with a single, but a win for the visitors.

John Jones skipped the other rink against Carl Best and was 8-0 down after five ends. Six shots reduced the deficit over the next few ends whilst two were added.

A further five were scored against before a recovery brought five winning ends from the last six, but not enough for success.
