MILLWOOD suffered another Munro Cup defeat, this time at the hands of Barry Romilly, by a 22 shot margin.

Barry Romilly won on three of the four rinks available, Millwood’s one winning rink avoiding a complete whitewash. They haven’t done as well as they started off in this season's cup run, winning six but sadly losing seven, with only two more to play.

After the first four ends had been played, the scores were tied at 10 –10. Maybe a close game is on the cards? In the next five ends, Romilly put their foot on the gas and led Millwood by 21 shots (20 – 41).

Millwood then started to pull back some of the deficit by only trailing after the 13th end by eight shots at (44-53). Could Millwood pull off an unlikely win in the last quarter of the game?

Sadly the answer was that Romilly put the pressure on again and took an unassailable 22 shot winning margin to finish at (60 – 82).

Looking at the rink scores, the closest either side got to the other was a seven shot difference. Well done Romilly and Millwood for playing the game in the true spirit of bowls, and enjoying each others company and hospitality.

Maybe next year a different result?

Millwood travelled to Rumney hoping for a win to keep their chances of promotion alive, even though lying as Division 4 leaders only four points ahead of Gelligaled.

Gelligaled did not play today so a win was really needed.

Millwood did the business and came away with a 12 points to two against Rumney.

As the game started, so the rain came, but as it was only a short shower or two, it didn’t affect the running of the green too much. After the first five ends had been played, Millwood were in the lead at 17 shots to 11.

At the break for “eats” after the tenth end, Millwood had a 15 shot lead over Rumney at (46 – 31). When the 15th end had been played the lead that Millwood had was increased to 21 shots on (65 –44).

Millwood even increased the lead even further over the last six ends, and finished the game with the 94 –68 winning margin, to seal the 12 points needed to consolidate their position on top.

The win was due to rinks one and two winning by 18 shots and 16 shots respectively, while rink four lost by 12 shots, due to the home skip pulling off some really good bowling to keep the home score more respectable.

Well done Millwood for a really needed, good win. They have a bye next week, (Millwood's next game is away to Thomastown on August 15) so if Gelligaled win their games in hand, the end of the season should be quite interesting.

Millwood know that they have the ability to do what is necessary.
