BARRY Rugby Club held their Annual Player Awards evening at the Memo to bring to a close a season which saw the First XV gain promotion to the 2nd Division of the Swalec Leagues.

All other sections of the club also had successful seasons and with a lot to celebrate some 250 gathered to enjoy a fine meal, provided by David Pereira, followed by aptly named band Slipped Disc who kept the dance floor filled until the early hours.

In between it was the time to present awards for each team, with lots of difficult decisions having to be made.

Recipients of club badges, awarded for completing 50 games for the club, were Joe Gallivan and Luke O'Sullivan.

Winners in the ladies were, Player of the Year was Louise Shanihan who also shared the Players Player Award with Lucy Cahill. Anna O'Neill received the Most Improved Award with Lynsey Phillips being made Clubwoman of the Year.

The final award for the ladies was The Spirit of the Bombettes which this year went to Jessica Dix.

Youth awards went to Player of the Year, Lloyd James with Most Improved going to Teifion Osborne.

The 2nd and 3rd XV Awards were presented to Rhidian Mepham and Liam Ring as Players of the Year with Lloyd Dutton and Leighton Jones winning the Most Improved Player category.

For the 1st XV the Player of the Year was presented to Alun Evans with Brad White earning the Most Improved award.

The Club Player of the Year was made to Gareth Hall.

Other awards were as follows, Bethan Howell Award went to Tom Perry, Chairman's Award was presented to Ioan Evans, with the final award of Clubman of the Year received by 1st Team Captain, Martin Tanner.

Congratulations go to all winners.

With the main awards complete it was time to make presentations of Club Caps, an award which recognises an achievement of having played 300 games for the 1st XV.

The Cap which has only been presented six times in the history of the club was this year awarded to Dave Provis and Martin Tanner and was presented to them by Andrew Prosser and Rhiddian Scott, two previous recipients of this prestigious award.

The award ceremony was conducted as ever with his usual aplomb by club president.
