ON SATURDAY Barry Athletic entertained Lisvane at The Island on a pitch that produced runs galore, Barry captain John Gee won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Lisvane lost their first wicket when they lost the wicket of Waldron for three with the score on 24 LBW to Peter Hellyar, but this then brought Brown and Turner together and it was to be another 168 runs before they lost their second wicket when Brown was LBW to Jake Griffett with the score on 192 for a fine and entertaining 118 from just 84 balls.

The third wicket to go was Turner who fell when the score was on 276 for 108 yet again another LBW this time to Billy Usswald, at 279 the fourth wicket fell when Reddievari was run out for two.

The next ball Baker was also run out by Daf Frost for 36 now the score 279 for five at 311 the sixth wicket fell when Hughes was also LBW to Billy Usswald for one, Daf Frost then picked up the wickets of Curzon bowled for 28 and Kier Caught Goodway for four as Lisvane scored a massive 321 for eight in their 50 overs.

With Barry having to start their innings at 6.44 runs per over and got off to a blistering start as Nathan Baker and Hugh Smith went off like a steam train with Baker reaching his 50 in just 25 balls with five fours and three sixes as he hit the Lisvane attack to all parts of the ground.

As he and Smith added 108 in just 14 overs going at a run rate of 7.71 and ahead of the rate required, Baker fell for 65 in 38 balls with five fours and four sixes when he was caught off the bowling of Hughes with the score 108.

Paul Murphy then went for 11 with the score on 137 caught and bowled course, Hugh Smith then fell run out for 55 with the score on 152.

Barry were still in it and plodded away and taking the runs when on offer before on 215 Goodway was bowled for 25, 11 runs later Ellis was caught in the deep for a fine 46, Jake Griffett bludgeoned 27 in 18 balls with two fours and two sixes.

Sylvester was sixth out with the score 244, one run later with the score 245 Griffett was out, Daf Frost was also bludgeoning the ball to all parts as he added 20 with Usswald and 10 with Gee and was the last man out for a fine 28 with one four and two sixes as Barry fell 32 runs short and a great run chase came to an end.

On Saturday Barry Athletics 2nd XI travelled to Croesyceiliog won the toss and bowled first as Croesyceiliog scored 199 for six in their 45 overs with Scarborough scoring 53 and Edwards 60 not out. Barry's best bowlers were Nicky Jones three for 35 and Simon Phillips two for 20.

In reply Barry got off to a brilliant start as Damon Leake and Joe Reji put on 146 for the first wicket before Leake was out for a fine 74.

Captain Baker came and went for 18 with the score on 175 he was caught off Scarborough, it was left to Reji who hit a fine 80 not out and Craig Brock who finished 12 not out as Barry reached their target of 200 with the loss of only two wickets with over 10 overs left and their title charge still going strong.
