SULLY Cricket first team survived with only one injury as did the opposition, St Fagans, on a pitch of variable bounce.

Losing the toss skipper Rod Howe guessed he would be put into bat and that would be the case.

From the onset the low bounce and then the occasional popper caused havoc within the Spartans' batting line-up and it took 15 overs of total concentration between the skipper and Krishna to reach 40 which in the end would be the foundation for victory.

After the loss of Howe, Inan hit a quick fire 15, but with Krishna (25) also departing the Spartans were 60 for three.

Mike Howe and D Morgan came into bat and gradually increased the tempo before Howe (15) was out to a devil of a ball and Loran and Sathish were soon to follow.

At 80 for six worse was to come as Pons pulled a calf muscle, Wainwright was cleaned bowled and VJ was well caught in slip, leaving the Spartans in dire trouble.

Hyder joined Morgan and together they painfully pushed the score to 137 before Morgan (28) was caught to a daisy cutter and the Spartans were all out for a poultry 137 in the 37 over (or would it be).

Well if the first innings was dire this was a calamity as the home team were ripped apart from the first over with Inam and Loran in tandem totally outwitting the batsmen with variation of pace and line which on this pitch was lethal.

Inam (five for 19) and M Loran (four for 18) bowled out the home side in 12.4 overs for 38 leaving the Spartans winners by 99 runs.
