ON SATURDAY Barry Athletic Cricket Club 1st XI travelled the short distance to Rhoose to play the Welsh Asians while the 2nd XI played Malpas at home.

In Rhoose, Barry won the toss and decided to bat first and got off to a bad start when they lost the wicket of Hugh Smith for four with the score on 17 when he was caught off the bowling of Khan, this brought Goodway to the wicket to join Murphy and they proceeded to added 124 for the second wicket before Murphy was caught behind off the bowling of Ali for a hardworking and fine 59.

Dawson came and went for zero also with the score on 141, this then brought the big hitting Griffett to the wicket and he and Goodway added 68 in nine overs as Griffettt hit 46 in just 34 balls with five fours before he was bowled by Harris Khan.

Nicky Jones then joined Goodway in Goodway's attempt to score his maiden 100 for the club after missing out earlier in the season, but it was not to be as he could not get that one last run to take him to the magic 100 as he ended up 99 not out as Barry reached 237 from their 50 overs.

In reply The Welsh Asian's got off to a blistering start as their openers Aslam and Asghar Ali smashed 74 off the first six overs and the 100 came up in the ninth over with Ali reaching his 50 in 22 balls with six fours and four sixes.

Ali though was going on his big hitting way as his 100 came off just 46 balls and included 10 fours and eight sixes as he was eventually out caught by Hugh Smith off the bowling of Lewis Doel for 165 from 88 balls with 23 fours and eight sixes as the Asians reached 240 for three and a win from just 29 overs.
