Millwood vs. Cowbridge (away) Munro Cup.

Millwood 49 - Cowbridge 78.

A BIT of a setback for Millwood to lose this game by a margin of 29 shots to Cowbridge, in this latest game in the Munro Cup. This defeat ended any slight chance of Millwood coming within sight of any kind of glory at the end of the series of games for the Munro Cup, but we will still enjoy playing to the completion of the Cup games.

We can now concentrate on consolidating our two division sides efforts to get promotion.

At the fourth end, Cowbridge had a lead of three shots (12-15), which after the ninth end had jumped to a 10 shot advantage of. On completion of the 13th end, Millwood were behind by a disappointing 21 shots at (36-57), only for Cowbridge to finish Millwood off by the end of the game by the hefty 29 shot winning margin.

Millwood had no answer to the 22 shot loss in rink four, which did help Cowbridge to clinch their deserved victory.

Millwood still have to play Penarth (home), Romilly (home), Llantwit Major (away) and Sully (home) to finish off the Munro Cup games. Let’s hope for a few good results.

Millwood 79 - Ynysygharad 89

LOSING this game to Ynysygharad was definitely not what was written in the game plan. This means now that Millwood will have to work harder now to keep in contention with the leaders if we want promotion out of this division.

After going 14 shots down after the first five ends (13- 27), it looked rather ominous for Millwood, whereupon, when the 10th end had been played the shot margin was 17 shots (36 - 53).

Millwood then started to pull back the deficit, and after the 15th end had been played the score stood at 61-70 to the visitors, but although Millwood tried their hardest, the visitors held on to their lead and came away with a match winning 10 shot margin, (79-89), taking 10 points to Millwood’s four points. Although we had two winning rinks, the shots tally went in favour of Ynysygharad. Hard luck lads.

At time of writing this report, Millwood now have played six, won four and lost two. At present we are lying second or third in the division, depending on how other results went on Saturday. Gelligaled look as though they are galloping away with the lead.

Time for us to try and catch them before it is too late, as only two sides are promoted.

Millwood play out at the Murch this Saturday (July 18), the start of the return fixtures in the Division. Another big win would do very nicely.

Millwood ‘A’ 71 - Splott Phoenix 76

Millwood ‘A’ side lost this sixth game in Division 7 by a margin of only five shots against the leaders Splott Phoenix.

Things started to go really well for Millwood, for after the fifth end had been played Millwood were leading by 25-14 shots, but after the 10th end had been played the Millwood shot margin had been whittled away to a solitary shot (34-33).

In the third quarter, Splott started to pull away from Millwood by leading 48-59 shots, making the final quarter a bit of a fight to see who would come out on top, but alas Millwood lost by a margin of only five shots.

The points total for the game worked out at nine points, five points in favour of Splott. Their players congratulated Millwood ‘A’ for giving them the closest game of the season so far.

Though Millwood won on two rinks and drew on the other, by virtue of a big loss on the other rink, put paid to Millwood getting a larger points score.

To come away with five points is no great loss at this point, but we cannot allow too many slip-ups now, because we need to fight for promotion from the second half of this campaign. Come on lads, you know you can do it.

Millwood ‘A’ next game is Saturday, July 18.
