BARRY Town United have secured a trio of exciting new signings as the Jenner Park club prepares for its much-anticipated return to Welsh League Division One.

Leading the charge will be Barry-based forward Drew Fahiya, a gifted goalscorer who spent a number of seasons with Port Talbot Town in the Welsh Premier League.

Scoring at Parc Y Scarlets in the 2010 Welsh Cup Final against Bangor City, Fahiya would feature in the subsequent UEFA Europa League tie against TPS Turku of Finland and the former Wales U23 international will now look to make his mark closer to home with his hometown club.

Joining him in Barry colours for 2015-16 will be fresh-faced, Cwmbran-based midfielder Louis Feeley, a former Newport County youngster who has also turned out for Clevedon Town and Weston Super Mare.

An enthusing and creative force out wide, Louis impressed for Chepstow against Barry during the 2014-15 campaign and was among the Hereford United squad that contested League Cup and FA Cup ties with Aston Villa and FC United of Manchester in recent seasons.

The third signee needs no introduction to Town followers, who will be happy to welcome explosive striker Jordan Cotterill back into the fold after a season away from Jenner Park.

Cotterill, who debuted in the memorable 4-3 win at Monmouth in February 2013, became the club’s Golden Boot winner for the Division Three championship season which followed, bagging a haul of 30 goals in competitive play.

With favourites TJ Nagi and James Dixon also signed up for the coming campaign, manager Gavin Chesterfield has managed to assemble a formidable attacking arsenal; bolstered further by creative midfielders Rhys James and Troy Greening, free-kick specialist Ryan Evans and skipper James Saddler.

Though winger Dale Howarth remains overseas and Curtis Hutson, Jamie Bradford, Tom Billing and Rob Blatchford are all to pursue pastures new, the core of the Barry squad that secured back-to-back titles remains intact; with the influential defender Bobby Briers the latest to put pen to paper.

Supporters will also be pleased to learn that long-serving goalkeeper Dan Bradley has also signed up for the new campaign; his ninth consecutive season at Jenner Park and one that will see him chase a landmark 100th clean sheet.

With the start of the league programme under a month away, the Town’s pre-season programme officially starts this weekend, with the first of six first team friendlies in the run-up to the big kick-off.

On Saturday, July 18, Barry welcome old friends Caernarfon Town to their training base at the University of Wales Sport Park in Cardiff, for what will be the first meeting of the sides in over a decade (2.30pm kick-off).

Though based at opposite ends of the country, the two coastal outfits share a number of commonalities; with each among the ‘Irate Eight' band of rebel clubs in the early 1990s before bringing their own shades of yellow to the new League of Wales and providing a career launchpad for Torquay, Hartlepool and Wales B striker Eifion Williams.

Remarkably, the match between the Town and Canaries at Jenner Park in January 1997 remains the highest-attended fixture in the history of what is now the Welsh Premier League, while Caernarfon also bear the distinction of inflicting Barry's biggest defeat in the domestic top flight; an 8-0 hiding at The Oval in 2003.

Although the duo would each succumb to relegation in the years thereafter, both have worked doggedly to restore their fortunes and this renewal of a dormant rivalry will whet the appetites of supporters on either side, as Caernarfon continue their pre-season stay in South Wales.

Then, on Tuesday evening, Gavin Chesterfield's squad will make the journey across to Bedwas RFC to tackle Trethomas Bluebirds of the Gwent County League in another pre-season friendly (7.30pm).

Admission to each fixture is free of charge, with updates online at BarryTownUnited.com
