CADOXTON Bowls Club faced Murch in a Munro Cup match on Wednesday, May 27.

Another bad night for bowling, with high winds affecting the direction of the bowls, brought Murch to meet Cadoxton. This also has the Colin Reynolds Remembrance Cup, presented to the winner annually, by his widow. Cadoxton made it three consecutive wins.

Two of the rinks finished level, with one win and one defeat to each team.

John Jones rink started well against Roger Mauchline, with four shots in the opening two ends, the game advantage fluctuated throughout with both sides leading in turn. A five gave the visitors a four shot lead with three ends left a two and two singles ended the game level.

Don Kuhnell was matched with skip Les Aubrey and held the lead, until the final end.

During the game the home team opened a gap on numerous occasions, but pegged back, so the gap never widened extensively.

On the final end Cadoxton held a five shot advantage and were holding shot until the last bowl, but all their other bowls were in front of the jack. The jack was moved but the shot wood also moved which saved an eight against, but a five tied the game.

Gordon Davies had Ron Crouch as his opposing skip and fell 7-1 behind after five ends. A four and a two cancelled this out, but six losing ends left them trailing by 12 shots, from which they never recovered.

Kelvin Chedgzoy’s rink took the honours with a superb performance against Bill Frampton’s rink. The game opened with a six in their favour and a further six was added half-way through. Only on six ends were shots conceded, and although one of these was a four on the penultimate end, the game and the overall match were won.

Roath Park was the visiting team on a fine day on May 30, to Victoria Park, for the ML6 match against Cadoxton.

Once again the rink skipped by Don Kuhnell, held the lead throughout the game, although they had to fight hard against a stubborn response from the opposition. After taking a 9-2 advantage the next seven ends were lost, but kept to just singles.

However with Ivor Robertson having a superb game, the scoring picked up again, and they finished comfortable winners.

Roy Harding scored just once during the first six ends on his rink and trailed 7-3. However they counteracted with a run of six winning ends, which included a five and two threes, giving them a comprehensive advantage of 19-7.

Although the opposition came back with a three and a two the remaining ends ended evenly with each scoring three singles.

John Jones skipped his rink to a 10-3 start after eight ends. The opposition then got back into the game at 10-7, and the match continued with both sides sharing the scoring, taking the score to 17-15 in favour of the home side. Two further singles were added to complete the third success.

Howard Craven skipped the fourth rink and had a tight struggle during the early stages to reach a tied position of 9-9 after 12 ends. At this stage the visitors moved ahead with eight shots scored in four ends.

Four of these were recovered during the next four ends, but a two against on the last ensured an away victory. The result was the third 12 point to two win for Cadoxton, of the season.
