SULLY Cricket Club continued their unbeaten run in the Cardiff Full toss Midweek league beating Glamorgan Centurions in a thrilling and nail biting game by two runs.

Losing the toss the Spartans were put into bat and knew that runs would be at a premium against a good bowling attack, and a total of in excess of 120 in this 18 over a side game was a must.

The opening Spartan pair started off well with a partnership of 47 until both were out in a short space of time leaving the Spartans 53 for two after eight overs.

Sahill (31 retired) and Trinath 28 not out were the only further batsmen to make any impact and after the allotted 18 overs the Spartans had finished on 113 for seven, slightly less than required and they knew it would take precise bowling from the six bowlers (max three overs per bowler) to win this game.

Inan (two for seven) was the pick of the early bowlers with Sathish (two for 14) keeping the middle order intact, and with regular opening bowlers Arif (one for 21) and Morgan (two for 20) maintaining the tight line at the finish the Centurions came short by two runs.

Then the team had another midweek match. With cup opponents CBBs conceding the tie, a hastily arranged friendly game at St Fagans against Eclipse was the order of the day.

Losing the toss the Spartans were asked to bowl, with Khan one for 22 and Gourav two for 19 keeping the scoring rate down.

Haaris (one for 16) and Sathish (two for 16) continued to put the pressure on the home batting line up, which led to an excellent run out.

Eclipse were now 89 for seven and Aman and Hyder one for nine kept the score down before Morgan two for 14 finished off the innings with the score at 120.

In reply the Spartans started off very slowly but gradually started to pick up the pace after the loss of one of the opening batsmen.

Skipper Abdul 26 not out and Haaris 37 punished the bad ball while defending well against the pace attack.

After the loss of Haaris a couple of quick wickets went down before Trinath took over the role of aggressor hitting three fours in his 19 not out and the Spartans reached their total in the 17th over, winning by five wickets.
