WITH another Saturday washed out - even at the Swalec Stadium - it was down to the Sunday XI to provide the cricketing action this weekend.

The Sunday team were on the road to redemption following a heavy defeat the week prior against Westbury On Severn.

This weeks guests were local rivals Sully Centurions. BWCC lost the toss and were put in to field with a damp wicket which was still drying out.

Sam Harris opened and as early as the third over he took the scalp off the skipper Tom Davies caught at Point By Alun Wade. Moggy at the other end kept things extremely tight and was rewarded with two further wickets early on both caught at silly mid off by Blundell. FIFA Centurions 25-3 at that point.

Harris had a further wicket caught by Darragh, and moggy cleaned bowled Thomas for a duck. Sully reeling 35-5.

Following the great start this bought Shae Ellis to the fore who looked to up the runs at a rate of knots dispatching change bowler and the nicest cricketer in existence Ian Ford and young Luke Grant for a bit of tap. Grant managed to get the wicket of Hicks before drinks ensued and Sully were 75-6.

After drinks fresh back from his sabbatical in India now he's really where he belongs at Hayes Point, Kunal had a few overs and toiled to no avail.

At the other end Wadey was bowling, dispatched by Ellis. Although he was dropped by Darragh. The next opportunity came two balls later where rumoured Wanderers signing Emma Davies chipped one to mid wicket. Instead of catching it Darragh decided to run past it which left the viewing public, Furny, Gerry and Jimmy, in disbelief.

Next over Waldo managed to clean bowl Davies and also managed the scalp of Shae Ellis for 66 caught by the now redeemed Darragh. This bought out Sylvester and also Mick Fisher. Sully 125-8. Following some comatose batting and a bit of banter between fielder and Sylvester. That was until Singh took care of Fisher and Hicks Sully 144 all out.

This followed a tea made for the gods. The Sunday tea is a joy to behold and the cakes made by Mrs Harris et al are divine.

The Wanderers went out to bat opening with Kunal and Blunders. They went about their business brilliantly well with some excellent stroke play and running between the wickets. Blunders pushing Kunal for every run. They saw off Emma Davies and Gethin Hicks Sully's opening bowlers without any issues. Shae Ellis came on to slow things down but Blunders and Mhadgut saw him off with ease. Kunal passed his 50 first, a homecoming in the making and we were 102-0 off 18.

That was until disaster struck and Kunal was cramping up. To save himself for next week Mhadgut retired which brought Alun Wade in at three (promoted for his 17 not out from 14 overs at Westbury maturity beyond his years). While Wade was watchful Blundell decided to get on with matters and bring the game home. He strolled past 50 with nonchalant ease, following that up with two big sixes.

Wade got himself in comfortably and Jimmy wanted to evidence the upturn in batting ability by filming this for his county kids. With a cheeky chip over cover and to finish the game a flick off the pads to Square Leg the game was done the Wanderers win by 10 wickets and Sully defeated.

A win for the Sunday XI redeeming themselves in the field.

Sully 144 ao. Ellis 66, Moggy 3 17-3, Harris 12-2, Blundell 3 catches Crofts-2.

Bwcc 145-0. Blundell 67no, Mhadgut 54no, Wade 15no.

The Glenbrook Inn Man of The match: Three catches and 67no Neil "Belfast Bomber" Blundell. For once a quiet game but great in the field but appalling banter from eternal clubman Jonny Hill.
