MILLWOOD turned up for the game at Dinas Powis but it looks as though all their bowls were left in the Clubhouse. Quite a devastating defeat at the hands of a far better side on the night.

The result looked ominous even after the first four of the scheduled 18 ends were played for Millwood. They trailed by five shots to Dinas Powis’ 28, after the ninth end the gap had widened to 13 – 48, with even further shots against being added. At the 14th end the score was 27 – 98, and to add further misery for Millwood, Dinas Powis finished the night off by an 80 shot advantage to finish at 36 – 116.

It must just have been one of those games when the plan did not materialise correctly. Millwood hope to get back on track for the next games with Barry Central (June 10), Penarth Windsor (June 17) and Murch (June 24).

Playing away to St Peters, Millwood gained a narrow four shot victory in a very close fought game by both sides, as the score might signify.

The green took a few ends to be “read” properly, but both sides dealt with their problems and got down to enjoy a competitive game.

With the five ends played Millwood were leading by a shot score of only 18 – 16. At the tenth end, Millwood had a 43 – 28 shot lead, but that was whittled away for the lead to be taken after the 15th end by St Peters to lead by 53 shots to 59.

Still fighting for every shot both sides tried their hardest, but Millwood kicked ahead to take the game for the four shot victory. All credit to both sides for the close contest.

With two out of two wins, 24 points so far, Millwood’s next game is home to Rumney (June 13), then a bye, then Thomastown (June 20). Here’s hoping for some further wins.
