MILLWOOD Bowling Club had a winning margin of 15 shots in the second game for the Munro Cup.

There are still 12 games yet to play before the final outcome. After the first five ends, Millwood had a six shot advantage (19-13), which by the ninth end had increased to a 36-23 lead.

With Millwood increasing the lead to a 19 shot margin on the 13th end to 53-34, to finally finishing after the 18 ends by winning 66-51. By the time this gets printed Millwood’s next opponents in the Munro Cup will be at home to Cadoxton. Maybe another win? Let’s hope for the best.

Then Millwood suffered a rather heavy defeat in the second round of the Carruthers Shield against a very strong Porthcawl side. Although the sun was shining, there was a fairly strong breeze blowing in from the sea which at times made the bowling a bit of a gamble as to whether to allow for the breeze or wait for it to subside. Even some of the opposition remarked about the tricky conditions.

With the first five ends played, Millwood were only a matter of five shots down at 13-18, but then Porthcawl started to turn the pressure up and after 10 ends Millwood found themselves 22 – 45 trailing, after 15 ends they were only a matter of 53 shots in arrears at 30 – 83, only to finish after the 21st end at the final result 49 – 110, a massive 61 shots adrift.

After the win against Maesteg Welfare this result came as a bit of a blow, so it stood at: played two, won one and lost one with the final game against Pontycymmer to count.

Then following the hammering away to Porthcawl, Millwood got back to more like the way the club should play.

Although there was only a single shot to decide the outcome of the game, unfortunately the result went against Millwood. Being so close, the result hinged on the final rink to finish (which was rink five), even more so the result went down to the final bowl being delivered by the opposing skip, who picked up the shot needed to settle the outcome in Pontycymmer’s favour.

At the end of the fifth end, Millwood were in front by six shots 15 –9, but Pontycymmer clawed back to trail by four shots after the tenth end to 35 – 31. With the 15th end having been played Millwood were only three shots ahead by 54 – 51, only to finish winning by the single shot 75-76.

Of course, by only winning one out of three games, Millwood’s progress in this comes to an abrupt halt. Even so, all players enjoyed the games though the mighty plan never came to fruition,. next year perhaps. Thanks go to all Millwood players who played and gave their best.
