BARRY Romilly Bowling Club holds their joint opening day this coming Saturday at 2pm with both the Men and Ladies Teams looking forward to the season ahead.

The captain’s for the forthcoming season are Mel Newman club captain, Paul Clarke ‘A’ team captain, Des Bannister midweek captain and Faye Woolcock ladies captain.

The men’s league, this season, are being played under a new format whereby all divisions have been reduced to eight clubs.

The Men’s Club Team who retained their status in the 1st Division of CML last season have a difficult season ahead as games will be played on a home and away basis for the first time, this will ensure whoever wins their respective leagues will become true champions.

Also with two sides being demoted, Romilly will have to play to their best to maintain their 1st division status this year as all the other clubs - Caerphilly, Troedyrhiw, Gelli Park,

Ferndale, Gilfach, St Joseph’s and Penryheol - are all sides full of top class bowlers.

Before these games the Carruthers Shield matches have to be played with Kenfig Hill being the first opponents on Saturday, May 2.

The Romilly ‘A’ side begin with a SVLA Game against Millwood ‘A’ and will be attempting to retain this cup for the fourth consecutive year.

The ladies commence their fixtures with three friendlies, the first away to Whitchurch Hospital; these will be followed by the first competitive match away to Barry Athletic on Tuesday, May 5.

All members are encouraged to attend the Open Day, any persons interested in playing bowls whether experienced or just wanting to try are welcome to turn up at Romilly Park on the day, all you need is a pair of flat sole shoes and bowls will be supplied.
