BARRY Saints secured the Mr Windows Second Division league title with an emphatic 9-1 victory over Cardiff Northern Old Boys.

Saints took the lead after a through ball from Alun Wyatt found striker Darren Townsend on the right hand side of the box, he then cut inside to leave his marker for dead and fired a left footed shot into the bottom corner.

David A Evans made it 2-0 after chasing down a long ball with the on rushing ‘keeper favourite to clear his lines. The ‘keeper unfortunately completely missed the ball which left Evans an easy tap in.

Evans then turned provider with a low cross from the right wing finding Nathan Williams to smash the ball home.

Darren Townsend grabbed his second after the ball dropped to him 25 yards from goal to curl a left footed shot into the bottom corner.

The score was 4-0 at half-time and the Saints were cruising. Saints continued to dominate and Williams grabbed his second after another Evans cross found him to bundle the ball home.

Townsend completed his hat-trick after picking up a through ball from Williams, escaping his marker with his electric pace and calmly slotting the ball past the ‘keeper.

Williams then grabbed his hat-trick with the goal of the game. Picking the ball up near the halfway line he burst past the Northern winger, cut inside from the left wing, squeezing between the full back and centre half whilst keeping close control of the ball. He then found himself one-on-one with the ‘keeper who rushed out to the Saints midfielder, Williams dragged his studs over the ball to put the ‘keeper down and leave himself the simple task of slotting the ball home into the empty net.

Townsend added his fourth with the ball bouncing around the Northern box after a Saints corner he hit a shot which took a deflection to loop into the net.

Northern grabbed a goal themselves after Saints failed to clear a corner which left the Northern player with an easy finish.

Saints and Williams had the last laugh. Chris Hegarty picked the ball up to cross for Williams who took a touch then calmly slotted the ball home.

The referee then blew up to send the Saints players into huge celebrations, deservedly clinching the league title.
