Division 1 Cup Semi Final

Glenbrook 1 Tynewydd FC 1 (3-5 pens)

TYNEWYDD FC made it three consecutive seasons of reaching the Division 1 cup final but they had to do it the hard way by going all the way to penalties to make it through.

Playing on a large pitch in Rhoose, the Tynny made the better start trying to play an expansive game to make use of the space on offer.

Although they had the lion’s share of possession they failed to create any clear cut chances to test the Glenbrook 'keeper. This same pattern continued into the second half, with numerous free kick and corner opportunities going begging.

Late on a corner kick was cleared up field, the Glenbrook striker running clear on goal only for Pravesh Pydannah to make a last gasp challenge to prevent what would surely have been a deciding goal.

This meant another 30 minutes of football to hopefully decide who would go through. The Tynny finally grabbed a goal which they deserved.

After a lovely one touch passing move through the centre of the pitch with Andrew Colburn slipping Lewis Union through, and from the edge of the box he calmly side-footed the ball into the top corner.

Tynny now knowing they were 15 minutes away from victory naturally sat back and with just minutes left paid the price when the Glenbrook striker netted to make it 1-1 and send the game to penalties.

Lewis Union won the toss and chose to go first; he stepped forward and made no mistake to make it 1-0.

Christian Harding then saved Glenbrooks first to give the Tynny an instant advantage. The next six penalties were all converted, with successful strikes from Andrew Colburn, Ross Smith and Spencer Bennett.

With the score at 4-3 it fell to Jammo to take what could be the game winning penalty something he made sure of, rifling the ball into the back of the net to send the Tynny to Jenner Park for their third successive Cup Final.

They go into the April 12 Cup Final as huge underdogs, facing runaway league leaders VI from St Athan who've only lost once all season, but it is a challenge the whole squad will relish and they will be hoping for as much support as possible at Jenner Park on the Sunday.

Man-of-the-match was a three way tie between Lewis Union, Pravesh Pydannah and Andrew Colburn but this was a true team victory with everyone playing their part.
