BARRY Town United have guaranteed promotion to the Welsh Football League's top flight.

Away at Caerleon Town this weekend, Barry came away 4-1 winners and then faced a nervous wait for the result from Cwmbran Celtic's visit to Undy Athletic to find out whether they had gained a guaranteed third place in Division Two.

With those teams finishing on a 1-1 stalemate, Barry Town celebrated their return to Division One, now needing five points from their last six games to clinch a championship title for the second year running.

Club secretary David Cole said: "We finished about 10 minutes before the Cwmbran game so I was on my phone trying to find out the score, all the boys were waiting in the changing rooms and all the supporters were still hanging around.

"When we found out it was just fabulous news for the club.

"It's tremendous news, when you think that 19 months ago we didn't exist.

"We've had such tremendous loyalty from a bunch of players who didn't know whether they had a club to play for anymore.

"We have a fantastic manager in Gavin Chesterfield. We've been through a lot over the last few years and now we're back where we belong."

Barry Town United are currently on top of Division two with 64 points, eleven ahead of second placed Caldicot Town.
