SULLY Sports RFC lost this weekend away to Tongwnlais 5-6 in this 72 minute contest, even though they scored three un-awarded tries but these things happen in rugby.

It just proves how tough this league is and how hard they will have to work to stay in the top three or even be promoted.

Sports started the game with intent but soon got drawn down a few levels, bad decision making and two soft penalties gave Tongwnlais the lead, 6-0.

Sports got into the game and started putting phases together, with just the final pass not going to hand or finding the oncoming player.

Some good defence kept the home team out and they had to resort to kicking possession away.

Sports showed why all teams want to beat them by putting runs together, with the forwards crossing the try-line but no try awarded on two occasions.

The second half started much as the first had finished, with both sides going for the kicking option, and strong defence from Sports.

The old brigade of Peter Mees and Antony Williams were let loose, which seemed to spur on the team, and again the forwards crossed the line with the backs joining in for the only try of the game.

Adam Wheeler didn't see much of the ball on the wing, so went looking to help after a nice drive over from a of couple yards.

Much the story of the day with the players playing nine man rugby for most of the day.

A frustrating game to watch but thanks go to all those who made the journey to support the team.

Sports continued to play rugby in the oppositions half but were unable to add any further points to the score board.

Despite the loss there were some good points from the day for coach Gareth Ivory to dwell over during training and selection this week.

Next game will be Ferndale at home on March 7, come along and enjoy the day.
