AFTER the neighbouring clubs had played out a competitive 3-3 draw at Station Road before Christmas, Barry Town United proved to be worthy winners of Tuesday night's return derby with Ely Rangers at Jenner Park.

Fielding a team near identical to that which won 5-1 at Chepstow on the weekend, Barry took a seventh-minute lead for the second consecutive match, as home-grown midfielder Rhys James headed home the club's 50th league goal of the season.

The seaside team would hit the crossbar twice in a matter of seconds shortly thereafter, before Ely spurned a golden opportunity to equalise; blazing the ball high above Dan Bradley's goal from a one-on-one situation.

Although a string of Barry chances preceding the break would prove to be ultimately fruitless, any hopes of a comeback by the fired-up Rangers would be quashed by the latest gem from TJ Nagi in the 54th minute; his fourth goal in four days putting the Town 2-0 ahead.

Tom Billing then made another effective appearance from the bench, dispatching a quick free-kick in the 86th minute to increase the Town's tally to three and seal another three points as the quest for promotion rolls on.
