JUST days after the winners were crowned from last season’s efforts Penarth and Dinas Runners returned to club championship action on the weekend.

During a presentation evening at The Windsor pub on Friday night runners were awarded trophies for their sterling efforts in the 2014/2015 season.

Gary Brown and Debbie Evans walked home with the men’s and women’s club championship shields, Yvonne Williams was awarded the Chairman’s Choice award for all her hard work during the season (as well as running six marathons in her 60th year), and Andrew Frayling was voted club member of the year for his work leading track sessions and helping to reinvigorate the Cosmeston Relays races with a chip timing system.

Marc Durkin and Louise Hunt were also voted Most Improved Members of the Year, whilst age category winners were also presented with their trophies. Claire Phillips, Andrew Palmer, Chris Seal, Richard Jackson-Hookins and Andrea Hurman also won 'full setter' awards for completing all the Gwent League cross country fixtures.

Richard Jackson-Hookins was 1st senior man, Chris Seal was 2nd and Paul Mitchell was 3rd.

In the veteran men’s division Andrew Palmer was 1st and Ian Warburton was 2nd.

In the senior veteran men’s division Knill Baird-Murray was 1st, Steve Hill was 2nd and Clem Clement was 3rd.

In the super veteran men’s division Chris Nellins was 1st, Malcolm Bradley was 2nd and Paul Furlong was 3rd.

In the women’s club championship Louise Hunt clinched the senior ladies division, Lindsey Hunt was 2nd and Danielle Rayner was 3rd.

In the veteran ladies division Amanda Lynch was 1st, Michelle Hoey was 2nd and Justine Cass was 3rd.

In the senior veteran ladies division Lisa Cleary was 1st, Andrea Hurman was 2nd and Beverley Warburton was 3rd.

In the super veteran ladies division Yvonne Williams was 1st, Janice Clement was 2nd and Judy Maragna was 3rd.

After the runners had recovered from the presentation evening they prepared for the Lliswerry 8 race on Sunday, January 25. It was a hugely successful start to the season for the club, with Malcolm Bradley, Paul Furlong, Janice Clement and Yvonne Williams all 2nd in their respective age categories. Personal best times were also set by Andrea Hurman, Malcolm Bradley, Richard Jackson-Hookins, Chris Seal, Danielle Rayner and Paul Mitchell.

With Gary Brown retiring from club championship racing the pressure was on Richard Jackson-Hookins to step up to the plate.

He achieved his first maximum point finish of the season, as the first Penarth runner to cross the finish line, in 47.54.

Ben Butler-Madden was next up in 48.58.

Andrew Frayling followed up in 54.16.

Rob Wilcox was 54.25.

Chris Seal was 55.04.

Ian Warburton was 55.11.

Clem Clement was 55.17.

Debbie Evans, the first Penarth woman to cross the finish line, was 55.24.

Malcolm Bradley was 55.52.

Paul Mitchell 56.13.

The next club race will be the Gwent League cross country fixture in Bristol on February 8.

The club meets every Monday evening at Penarth Leisure Centre at 7pm, with anyone welcome to try out the club for a few sessions. The AGM will be held at The Windsor pub on Monday, February 2.
