SULLY Senior Bowls Team having won their first three games of the new season against Taff Ely, Islwyn and Cardiff, travelled to Mountain Ash on Wednesday, November 26, to play Cynon Valley in the next round of the Clubs Championship.

The Sully Team are playing with tremendous confidence which is shown by the fact that they have gained 38 points out of a possible 42 and heading the league table.

The match commenced with Sully taking a narrow lead of 21 – 14 at the end of the fifth, then having found the pace of the green Sully began to take control opening up a 28 shot lead by the tenth end.

The rinks skipped by Dave Snelling, Brian Griffiths and Fred Phillips were well ahead but Ken McLeod’s rink, who were behind early on recovering to take a two shot advantage at this stage.

As the game progressed the Sully rinks remained in total control edging further ahead by the 15th end 70 – 40. The trend continued to the final ends with Griffiths and Phillips winning comfortably along with McLeod’s rink who romped away to win by 17 shots having been behind early on.

The rink of Dave Snelling who was leading comfortably up to the 13th end lost six consecutive ends dropping nine shots to fall two shots behind with two ends to play.

The Sully rink picked up one shot on the next end leaving the rink still one behind playing the final end, they then found themselves three shots down with Snelling left to bowl his last wood, he played a weighted bowl into the head which fortunately edged the jack to other Sully bowls leaving them holding three shots for a win ensuring two extra points.

The final score was 94 - 53 in favour of Sully, taking the full 14 points with a 41 shot victory remaining top of the league with two games left against Caerphilly (Islwyn) and Newport. Rink Scores Sully first:-
