SOUTH Wales Senior League Division One

Butetown 0 - Sully Sports 4

The San Siro Stadium at Butetown has not been a happy hunting in the past for Sully and the long grass did them no favours. The games early exchanges passed without much excitement with the Bute boys showing their eagerness to go through the ball in an attempt to win it. The Butetown team found the back line of the Sully team in top form, and the Sully team were more than a match for the home team.

It looked like neither side were going to score, then after 35 minutes Sully took the lead after Wes Lamb and Aiden Lewis opened up the Bute defence down the right with Mark Brown hitting a cross shot that deflected off the defender into the corner of the net for a clear own goal giving Sully a deserved lead at the interval.

Sports started well in the second half with Harding and Lamb wide, the Butetown defenders struggled and after a cross Chris Rees controlled the ball well but decided to pass to Aiden Lewis who blasted the ball passed the keeper.

Townsend was now starting to show authority in midfield and Lewis began to dictate play. This was the signal for Bute to change their formation and they had a good period but Sully defence held firm with Storer, Jones and Hopkins outstanding along with keeper Sharratt patrolling his box to great effect. Just as Bute were looking to capitalise, Sharratt pulled out two great reaction saves, which deflated the home side. Dan Lawlor was running direct at the defence and he made it three as the defenders were slow to pick him up.

Alex Long returning from injury replaced the hard working Rees and Taylor Harding feeling his hammy on his birthday was replaced by Robert brown who settled in well as Bute fought back.

A great move from the back saw Alex Longs clever flick beat the offside trap and Lawlors speed saw him through to beat the keeper sealing a great win for Sully over the Bute boys who never gave up.

Team: Sharratt, Lamb, Jones, Storer, Hopkins, Harding, Brown, Lewis, Townsend, Rees and Lawlor.

Subs: Blackie, Long, Brown and Borde.

This Saturday Sully play Max United at Swanbridge kick off 2pm.
