MORE THAN 100 pupils turned up to take part in the Vale Council’s 5x60 table tennis tournament at Bro Morgannwg Comprehensive School, Barry.

Tuesday, October 21 saw pupils from across the Vale attend, including students from Stanwell, Cowbridge, and St Cyres schools.

There were 16 teams taking part split into three groups, a boys year 7 and 8 competition, won by Stanwell, a girls year 7 and 8 competition, won by Cowbridge, and a boys year 9 and 10 competition, won by Barry Comprehensive.

The winning teams will now advance to the regional competition held by Sport Wales.

5x60 Officer, Chris Ferrier, said: “It was a fantastic event, which was well attended and is an excellent way to build the profile of table tennis within the Vale of Glamorgan.”

5x60 aims to get secondary school pupils more active more often by encouraging them to exercise for at least 60 minutes, five days a week.

The Welsh Government funded initiative is run by Sport Wales and is supported locally by the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Sports and Play Development Team.
