AT THE annual Cadoxton Bowling Club awards presentation evening in the Victoria Park clubhouse on Friday, October 17, both long-time members and recent recruits took leading positions and received the appreciation of a packed audience.

The prestigious championship final was won by newcomer Rob Byrne, playing in his first full season, who beat Jim Stacey in a hard-fought match. Equally competitive was the handicap final, with victory going to Steve Clarke over Gordon Davies.

Recent recruit Paul Swannick did exceptionally well, winning the novices final and the two bowl final and being part of the winning team in the triples final. Older hands who performed splendidly included David Evans and Ron Harding who won the pairs championship and John Jones who gained the Jack Hartman trophy.

As customary, two special awards were made. Howard Hellyar, a great supporter of the club's sporting and social activities over the years was chosen to receive the captains' award for the person who had contributed most to the club's achievements, and Jim Slater, who cheers up every match he plays in was selected by club members as the personality of the year.

In the absence through illness of the club's president Les Cundliffe, the trophies were presented by the club captain Kelvin Chedgzoy and the club chairman Derek Brook.
