Ammanford 5 v 2 Sully Sports FC

SULLY travelled to take on Ammanford in Sully’s third game of the competition; conditions were good with a light wind and a sunny afternoon. The pitch was in excellent quality which wasn't surprising as Ammanford hadn't played a league game all season as they are another Welsh Club side still in dispute with the governing body despite the season being two months old.

Ammanford had a sprinkling of ex Welsh Premier players and their freshness (having only played a couple of cup games in the last two months) was clear from the outset as they took the game to the visitors. They had also done their homework with early crude challenges on Lawlor, Long and Mcinery, Sully’s front three. The normally influential Brown was finding it hard to get in the game and Lewis and Townsend had to work hard against a very strong Ammanford midfield.

Despite fine saves by Sully keeper Sharratt it was Sully who pressurised the home defence and when Long stole the ball he finished to put Sully a goal up. This was followed by a Lawlor effort just wide.

A great move by Sully saw Mcinery volley and ask a fine save from the keeper. Ammanford equalised and took the lead either side of half time as the Sully defence of R Brown, Storer, Brody Miles and Lamb found the attacking quality some of the best they had come up against all season. This despite Lamb making some great last tackles and having a strong game for Sully Sports.

Jimmy Blackie brought Rees and Hanlon on for Mcinery and M Brown as Ammanford stretched their lead taking the score to 4-1. A ripper of a strike from Townsend pulled one back for Sports as M Blackie replaced R Brown. Sports were now going for broke and were again exposed with Sharratt making fine saves but at the death Ammanford made the score 5-2. Sports found themselves chasing the game and the score is a little flattering but it has to be said the better team won on the day.

This weekend it’s back to league action with a home game against Penydarren with a 2pm kick off at Swanbridge.

Sully’s Vale side had a 6-0 home win against Cadoxton Athletic with man of the match Connor Ogden netting a hattrick, Rowden, Boyles and Reid were the other Sully marksman, the side are also home this weekend against Glenbrook 2pm kick off.

The ladies had no game last week and find themselves without a match this weekend where as Sully Youth are in the SWYL Youth Cup this weekend at Sully against Pontypridd 2pm kick off.
