MASONS Moving Group welcomed Canton Rangers to Severn Avenue for the first round of the South Wales Intermediate Cup. Without knowing too much about the opposition, MMG knew that if they went out and played their own game then they would stand a good chance of progressing in this cup competition.

A confident and assured start set the tone for the game. Canton offered some resistance but MMG quickly took control of the game. An early contentious penalty shouted for MMG was waved away after Anthony Connell was clumsily bundled over in the box.

Justice was served only a few minutes later when Rhys Jenkins guided a well placed shot in to the top corner.

The rest of the half was played out comfortably with the well organised defence and hardworking midfielders not allowing Canton to get a foothold in the game.

The second half started well and MMG soon got back into their rhythm. A change in midfield meant an introduction for Elliot Cayton who quickly settled in.

A second goal was added midway through the second half, great build up play and a precise cross to the back post from Rhys Jenkins was finished by Anthony Connell who headed the ball past the despairing goalkeeper.

The last fifteen minutes Canton pushed an extra man up front and a change of formation was required with Lee Galsworthy replacing the solid and hardworking Paul Eveleigh.

Although Canton applied pressure in the last ten minutes, MMG never looked like conceding and comfortably finished the game with another clean sheet.

Superb performances all around from all 14 players involved.
