SOUTH Wales Senior League Division One, September 27, Sully Sports FC 5 v 1 Cornelly.

Sports were back in League action on Saturday against one of last season’s top sides, Cornelly were the visitors to an unseasonably warm Swanbridge.

A fair sized crowd took advantage and turned out to support the home side. Early exchanges were fast and furious and it was Long who found himself being felled in the box to gain a penalty ten minutes in which he stepped up and smashed home.

Within minutes the Cornelly centre half was lucky to remain on the pitch as he crudely scythed down Lawlor. The Cornelly keeper tried to play out from the back and the ball was intercepted by Brown and with the goal gaping he was unable to punish the error.

However, a shot by Long was half cleared and Lawlor tucked in Sully’s second.

Cornelly fought back and the defence of Lamb, Hopkins, Brody Miles and Storer stood firm, until Sharratt pulled off a fine save to deny the Cornelly striker. Townsend and Lewis then started a fluid move that involved both Long and Lawlor as Mcinery was set up to put home Sully’s third as half time beckoned.

At half time with the score 3-0 it was anticipated Cornelly would return in stronger mood, that they did and within minutes of the restart a speculative shot was deflected off a Sully defender past Sharratt who could do little about it.

This was a wakeup call and the home side answered with two better worked goals from the strikers Long and Lawlor to put distance between the two sides at 5-1.

Sully had many chances to add to the total with Townsend and substitute Rees both hitting the post.

Ed Jones and Brown came on latterly for the hard working duo of Storer and Hopkins as Sully saw out the game.

This was a good tough game in preparation for the Welsh Cup game at Welsh League Ammanford this Saturday.
