VALE Ladies faced Caerphilly Ladies with the Vale winning 10-4.

Vale started their home season at Maslin Park Barry on a fine afternoon and attacked straight from the kick off and the pressure paid off after six minutes when Emily Hill scored with a fine shot giving the keeper no chance.

Caerphilly then put pressure on the Vale defence and equalised. The game was, going from end to end and Niamh Teague with a superb through ball found Laura Cachia who made no mistake to restore Vales lead.

Caerphilly then broke away and from the resultant corner scored a deserved equaliser. Vale exerted more pressure and from a great passing movement Chloe Henderson scored with a 25 yard shot into the top corner of the net. Caerphilly then had a good spell of pressure and scored again when the Vale keeper let the ball roll over the goal line to make the score 3-3.

After 32 minutes Millie Jones collected a pass from Shanice Donovan who was having a fine game in defence and ran 30 yards before placing the ball in the corner to make it 4-3 to Vale.

The rest of the first half was fairly even with both teams having chances but it was Vale who scored when Georgia Atkinson picked up the ball from a long free kick and placed it into the corner to make it 5-3 to Vale at half time.

The second half started with Vale in the ascendancy and after a fine run and cross down the wing by Emily Hill, Chloe Henderson scored her second with a neat tap in.

Robyn Hall deputising in goal then made a superb save to deny Caerphilly and the Vale took control of the game with Niamh Teague probably having her best game for the club in defence, ably supported by Shanice Donovan and Shanaz Masani giving the opposition little opportunities.

Vale then played some attractive football passing the ball around with conviction and Danielle Kerslake, Jodi Harris and Bethan Ellis all playing their part in the build up.

This resulting in the Caerphilly defence being given a torrid time and Laura Cachia then scored twice in a few minutes both from through balls giving the keeper no chance on either occasion.

From a Caerphilly corner Vale conceded an own goal to make the score 8-4. From the restart Emily Hill collected the ball and ran 40 yards before hitting a great shot in the corner.

From another through ball Laura scored her fourth in the final minute to give Vale a fine win 10-4.

After a disappointing season last year the start to this season promises to provide an excellent opportunity to improve as it progresses.

Both coaches Derek Donovan and Maz Attanasio have worked hard in preseason to build the team into an excellent unit.
