MASONS Moving Group FC went into this game knowing that an away trip to St Athan was always going to be a tough test. A nervy start from both teams set the tone for a close encounter. After ten minutes a counter attack from St Athan allowed their right winger to break free, cross the ball and the deflected shot from the striker was bundled into the net. A full blooded challenge resulted in injury to Callum Lavin. The injury meant an early introduction for Lee Galsworthy who quickly settled into the game. The rest of the first half was played out cagily with both teams not wanting to make a mistake. MMG set about the second half with vigour, knowing that they had to go out and take control of the game. A fast start resulted in a corner from MMG. A Josh Mazey whipped corner was met by the on rushing Michael Fallas to head into the net. This gave a huge boost to MMG and they quickly took control of the game. A second goal was added in near mirror image fashion. A fantastic corner from Josh Mazey and a perfectly timed header from Michael Fallas fired MMG into the lead. Further goals were nearly added when a 25 yard strike from Josh Mazey cannoned of the bar and great interplay led to a James Mason shot which also hit the bar. The introduction of Elliot Cayton meant a reshuffle in midfield to provide a solid finish to the game. The last ten minutes St Athan started to apply more pressure but the organised defence and brave goalkeeping from James Prothero made sure that nothing was getting through. A fantastic second half performance resulted in a 2-1 victory for MMG. Great performances all round but man of the match was awarded to Tim Lednor for a superb and solid defensive display.
