COLCOT ABC travelled to hosts Splott ABC at Earlswood Social Club in Cardiff on Friday, September 19, with four boxers.

First into the ring was Ethan (Dobby) Dobbinson from Barry who was facing H.Ali from Grangetown. Dobby took the fight to the Cardiff boy and really showed his skills with accurate counter punching and sheer determination to win a unanimous points decision.

Second up was ten year old Brandon Phillips who in his very first fight for Colcot ABC proved to be yet another class boxer from this renowned boxing gym. Phillips was up against Penyrheol boxer Paddy Murphy in what turned out to be a cracking non-stop action fight gaining a commendation from referee Tony Wynn at the decision in favour of Phillips who won all three rounds.

Ollie Tipples from Barry Island was third in action and taking the fight at an hour’s notice proved his quality in another action packed fight taking on Jim Mcallister from POW ABC. Good footwork and blistering combinations, Tipples showed his dominance from the first bell and continued throughout the contest winning every round comfortably.

Finally came Barry Boys pupil Cian Anderson who was also debuting that evening against a more experienced boxer in Ethan Knight from Splott ABC. For three rounds both boxers gave their all, showing excellent displays of their pedigree in what turned out to be a very close contest with the Splott boy just edging the split decision.

Head coach, Wayne Gurd, has said: “At the moment our gym is full of schoolboys breaking through the ranks and on their way to stardom. I’m very pleased to see our training methods and quality schooling paying off. We have the Novice Welsh Championships looming and will have around 10-15 entrants all of whom have been working hard throughout the summer and I am confident of a high number of champions".

The coach and club would also like to extend their appreciation to Dave Allison of New Broad St Motors and former Welsh Champion and ex Colcot ABC boxer Paul Goodwin from Barry Tyre Centre for their generosity in providing all the new kit for the season.
