ON Sunday, September 14, the Barry Beavers Disabled Swimming Club held another very successful fundraising triathlon.

Five individual competitors and four teams battled against each other to be awarded the first place.

In the team event, Stephanie Evans and her team from the Barry Eye Centre was first out of the pool in an impressive 19 minutes. Her team mates Diane Hitchcock and Jackie Sims triumphed in the bike and running events to arrive back at Barry Leisure Centre in an impressive time of 1 hour and 19 minutes.

Competing in their first triathlon, Nick's team - Nicholas Cushen, Richard Colbourne and Mark Eveleigh - finished in a great time of 1:32. Richard Field, David Lalande and Joshua Watkins finished in 1:41 and Adam and Peter finished in 1:44. Well done teams.

In the individual race, Chris Economides, chief swimming instructor at Barry Beavers who was last year’s winner, finished in a great time of 1 hour and 21 minutes, taking two minutes off his winning time from last year.

Patrick Jones finished in 1:23, knocking 10 minutes off his time from last year. Michael Brown, competing in his first triathlon finished in 1:26, Cath Jones 1:50 and to a great big cheer, Robert Lynch came over the line in a fantastic time of 1:55.

The Vale of Glamorgan Mayor, Cllr Howard Hamilton and his wife Carol presented the trophies and medals. Barry Beavers are very grateful for all their support.

A big thank you to St John Ambulance, Pegasus Explorers and 372 Barry Air Cadets for giving their time to help at the event. A big thank you to all the marshals, helpers and supporters for making it a successful event.

To finish the event Sarah, Louis and Joshua Davies did the ice bucket challenge to roars from the crowd.
