SOUTH Wales Senior League Division Two

Stanleytown 0 - 5 Cadoxton Barry

Scoring for Cadoxton: Baker 2, Steel, Oaten, Thompson

For three minutes Stanleytown looked as though they might make CB work hard for any points that they might earn, but as soon as Scott Williams got the bit between his teeth it became clear that there was only going to be one outcome. He was at the fulcrum of the CB offensive, making the cogs turn as his hard work initiated opportunity after opportunity.

However, the first real chance fell to Stanleytown when, in a breakaway following a spell of defending, a deflected shot fizzed across the face of the CB goal with two players only just failing to get close enough to toe poke it home.

But back came CB to earn a free kick which Williams stuck crisply to bring a good save from the home 'keeper. And further pressure brought a corner, taken by Walsh and blasted against the bar by Baker. But Baker didn't have to wait too long to get his name on the score sheet as a Walsh free kick found Dawson who, in turn flicked on to Baker who finished with, what appeared to be, a deliberately sliced contact in order to put it beyond the reach of the diving 'keeper.

Then a quality team movement involving seven or eight accurate passes resulted in Williams shooting just wide. But Williams was involved in the second goal as one of his speciality long throws bounced free in the goalmouth for Steel to run in and stab home at the far post on the thirty minute mark.

CB were now going forward at every opportunity and a long ball from Adams found Williams who sent over a fine cross which the 'keeper just got a hand to. But the incoming Baker was in the right place at the right time to head home the parried ball.

Then two minutes later, in the thirty-fifth minute, Williams found himself in a bit of a melee in front of goal to see his final shot cleared from the line.

Stanleytown brought on a couple of youth team members early in the second half and it seemed to make a difference for a while - CB having to wait until the seventy-seventh minute before they were able to add to their first half tally. Dawson noticed substitute Oaten making a run down the middle of the park and his pin point chip fell right into his path with the off side trap beaten and the 'keeper drawn out to the left. Oaten took a few more steps before rolling the ball into an unguarded net.

And Oaten was involved again when, with two minutes remaining, his cross from the right found Thompson to head home at the far post.

By the end of the game Williams must have had more missed strikes at goal than the total of all the other players on the pitch. But that didn't matter as his tireless efforts as goal creator more than made up for it.

Next Saturday Cadoxton Barry plays the return league fixture against Stanleytown at Bryn-Y-Don. Kick off at 2pm

Vale of Glamorgan League Division One

Cadoxton Barry 2nds 2 - 2 Vi

Wells, Angove

In a rearranged Vale League Division Two match Cadoxton Barry 2nds hosted the 100 per cent record holders that were Vi. The drawn game meant that Vi dropped two points for the first time this season. CB was comfortably the better side during the first half and took a 2 - 1 lead into the break. Although CB continued to have the edge – just - in the second half, an improved Vi display was good enough to see them bag the only further goal, take a share of the points and preserve their unbeaten record – though it is no longer 100 per cent. Cadoxton Barry Assistant Manager, Tommy Taylor, said that, based on the quality of the CB performance, he views the draw as two points dropped rather than a point gained.
