BARRY Saints maintained their 100 per cent record at the expense of Canton Cross Vaults. Both teams had maximum points from their opening four games but Saints delivered a crucial blow in the title race with a 2-1 victory in a feisty match which saw the referee show his red card twice. Saints started the better team with fast tempo football causing problems for Canton back line and cancelling out any threat they offered in return. The midfield battle was intense with both teams picking up silly cautions.

Saints pushed on and were rewarded when Nathan Williams found space on the edge of the box to steer a side footed shot into the bottom corner. Canton equalised soon after with a free kick being fumbled into the path of their player to tuck the ball home.

Canton were soon dealt a game changing blow when the referee had no choice but to give the Canton midfielder his marching orders.

Second half started and the Saints pressed and regained the lead. The Canton keeper could only fumble a shot straight into the path of Williams to smash home the rebound for his second. Saints continued to push with countless chances but were unable to breach the Canton goal. Canton went close with a sweetly struck free kick striking the post but this was their only effort of any danger during the second half. Saints were unfortunate not to add to their tally after striking the post themselves late on. 2-1 the final score. Credit to Canton and the nine men who battled extremely hard, especially their keeper who made numerous saves to keep the score line at 2-1.
