PHOENIX Freestyle Martial Arts recently held a grading and an inter-club competition. Students successful in attaining their yellow-striped belts were Neve Edwards, Richie Coborn and Joely Keane. Those who attained their yellow belts included Cameron Edwards, Joshua Edwards, Joseph Hobbs, Aaron Coborn and Ioan Cain.

The inter-club competition was held to celebrate the club being open for a year. Students competed in teams against each other and were asked to perform a pattern/form and also to spar against one another. There was a very competitive and serious edge to the event, although a lot of fun was had all students acted in a disciplined manner throughout.

Student of the year award was also presented by instructor Michael Morgan. After much deliberation it was decided that Neve Edwards, who is only 7 years of age, was a worthy choice, as she displays a real passion and a competency beyond her years.

A surprise presentation of a beautifully engraved plaque was also made to Michael on behalf of the students to mark the anniversary of the club.

Michael would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported the club, particularly the students and parents. These are exciting times for Phoenix Freestyle and Michael is looking forward to the forthcoming year, as he believes that the student-group is capable of significant achievements.

Phoenix Freestyle trains at the Old School Hall; Sully on Wednesdays between 5.30pm-7pm. Michael Morgan can be contacted on 07790013967.
