ON SATURDAY The Athletic Ground Barry Island was the venue for another nail biter as Barry Athletic entertained Rogerstone, Barry Captain John Gee won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Rogerstone got off to a steady start and were on 43 when the lost their first wicket Harris LBW to Frost for 22, next to go was Alderway for 3 also LBW this time to Usswald, on 49 H. Berry was next to go also LBW to Usswald for 21, at 72 Rogerstone lost the wickets of M. Tutton and J. Tutton both caught of Paul Murphy by Usswald and M. Baker respectively, Ferriday picked up the 6th wicket with the score on 81, Captain Gee picked up the 7th wicket, Martin Baker took the 8th wicket and Billy Usswald took the 9th wicket, Rogerstone ending up on 145 for 9

In reply Barry got off to a brilliant start as Goodway and Murphy put on 74 for the 1st wicket before Goodway was caught for 43, 2nd wicket to go was N. Baker for 6 with the score on 91, Murphy went with the score on 96, on 111 A. Baker went for 8, soon followed by Jones for 10 with the score on 118, it then became 118 for 6 when Usswald was bowled for 0, 2 wickets fell on 137 S. Evans for 11 and Gee for 0, now 137 for 8, it then became 143 for 9 when Frost was out for 2, it then came down to a tense finish with Barry needing 3 off the last over and then 1 off the last ball when Martin Baker hit the ball to short cover and was dropped there was then panic as they tried to run him out, but the game was over and Barry ran out 1 wicket winners, for the second week in a row a tight finish. Barry 146 for 9, win by 1 wicket.

This week Barry travel to Malpas, with the 2nd XI home to the same opposition.

Barry Athletic Cricket Club will be holding there AGM at the Club on Friday, September 26 at 7.30pm, all members are asked to attend as 2015 is a big year for the club, with their 125th anniversary.
