BARRY Town United will be part of this weekend's annual Non-League Day; a nationwide event held each year during the first international break of the football season.

Designed to encourage fans of professional clubs to show support to their local sides, Non-League Day has evolved into a celebration of the beautiful game and the volunteer-led clubs at its core.

With no domestic fixtures in either the Premiership or Championship, locals in search of a football fix are welcomed to Jenner Park for what should be a compelling match between Barry and Risca United.

The fan-owned community club will also be raising awareness for Non-League Day charity partner Prostate Cancer UK in the matchday programme; with kick-off set for 2.30pm.

In last year's meeting at Jenner Park, late strikes from Michael Hartley and Troy Greening helped ten-man Barry thrillingly overturn a one-goal deficit to secure a rousing 2-1 win.

However, Gavin Chesterfield's side would lose the return in Risca 3-1, and will be weary of a repeat performance this weekend.

The Town and the Cuckoos each sealed promotion in the spring, and will be hopeful of continuing their upward momentum in Welsh League Division Two.

Last Saturday though saw attention switch to the Welsh Cup Qualifying Rounds, with Barry emphatically beating Splott Albion 8-0.

Greening was on target with his first hat-trick for the club, with further goals from Tom Billing (2), Paul Morgan, Lee Baldock and competitive debutant Adam Owens.

For Baldock, it would be a tenth Barry goal in 100 senior matches, while goalkeeper Dan Bradley enjoyed an 88th clean sheet on his landmark 300th appearance.

Owens and fellow substitute Theo Richards meanwhile joined the growing list of players to have progressed through the club's youth system to a full senior level.

The draw for the Second Qualifying Round has paired the Town with Ystradgynlais, in a tie to be played on Saturday, September 13 at Jenner Park (2pm).

The postponed fixtures against Caldicot Town and Ely Rangers have been re-scheduled for Tuesday, October 21 and Tuesday, February 10 respectively, each with a 7.45pm kick-off.
