BARRY Saints kicked off the new season with 3 points after a hard earned victory over Railway Wanderers. It wasn't all plain sailing for the Saints as they twice came back from behind to claim a 6-3 victory to send them top of the league.

Saints started the better of the two teams, keeping possession and carving out opportunities at will. Railway managed to get the ball out of their half and earn a corner. From this they took the lead in controversial fashion. The ball was floated in and with that a Railway player then controlled the ball with his hand and his cross come shot found a teammate to bundle home. Saints pressed for the equaliser and it deservedly came when Joss Davies shot from the edge of the box to find the bottom corner. Half time was approaching before the saints took the lead. A mazy run by David Evans gliding past 3 defenders and unselfishly laying the ball across the box for Michael Evans to tap home. Second half and the Saints again found themselves pressing only to be pegged back after a long ball was not dealt with and a low shot hit the post and went in to even the score. Moments later a burst down the right from the Railway winger who delivered a looping cross to find his teammate to slam a volley home to take the lead again. With the Saints staring at an unlikely loss on the opening day the momentum swung their way. After a set piece wasn't dealt with by Railway the ball fell to centre half Luke Brody-Miles 30 yards out. Using his chest to control the ball he cut across a looping volley which was too hot to handle and landed in the top corner. Saints kept pushing and were rewarded after some neat and tidy play Nathan Williams found space in the box to score with a good finish. Another break by the Saints found striker Townsend burst through only to unselfishly lay the ball through for Williams to grab his second. As the game was coming to an end and a winning start achieved it was only fitting for centre midfielder Williams to complete his hattrick with a simple finish. Next weeks game will be at Trelai where Saints play 3rd place Blackweir Ravens.
