ON SATURDAY Barry Athletic 1st XI entertained Criegau in a league game on what was also an open day as well as a day to say thank you to some former players and captains.

Barry Captain John Gee won the toss and asked Criegau to bat first and Criegau got off to a solid start and put 50 on for the first wicket before they lost the wicket off Nicholls caught by Brock off Hellyar for 16, they then lost Taylor for 55 off the bowling off Gee LBW, Innes was next to go for 53 caught by Hellyar off the bowling of Uswalld, Nathan Baker then picked up 2 wickets both caught by Lee Morgan and Peter Hellyar, Criegau ended up on 228 for 5 off their 50 overs.

Barry’s innings didn’t get off to a great start when they lost the wicket of Morgan for 0 with the score on 4, there was then a 59 run partnership between Nathan Baker and David Goodway before goodway was out for 25. There was then a stand of 44 between Baker and Brock before Brock was out for 19, Baker soon followed for a fine 52 his 3rd fifty in 4 innings, Murphy went for 4, followed by Jones for 13, Usswald for 9, S. Jones for 15, Gee for 1 and Frost for 5 as Barry were bowled out for 160.

The 2nd XI had a fine win away to Criegua with Andrew Buckland getting a Century and Scott Malpas 98.

This weekend Barry 1st XI travel to Newport Fugitives, with the 2nd XI at home to the same opponents, on Bank Holiday Monday the 1st XI travel to Brecon with the 2nd XI home to Dinas Powys.

The club would like to thank Alun Cairns MP and Jane Hutt AM for their attendance at the club open day Saturday, former players/captains John Murphy, Hugh Davies, Owain Clements, Billy Davies, Keith Selway and Phil John who enjoyed there time at the game on Saturday, they would also like to thank Vicky Barrie of Waitrose Barry for her kind help on Friday.
