LADIES Open Day at Wenvoe Castle Golf Club is always a popular event and this year was no exception with a good entry rewarded by yet another warm and sunny day.

The stableford competition involved teams of three players with the best two scores to count and you could almost guarantee a close finish was on the cards.

Local knowledge proved to be a major contribution as Lynda Campbell, Fran Grant and Tina Church, all members of the home club, posted the winning score of 85 points.

Close on their heels were Sheila Davies, Sue Dayananda and Karen Ball again from Wenvoe Castle who just missed out with 84 points.

Eirlys Thomas, Joan Bool and Annette Davies from Brynmeadows Golf Club took third place with 80 points.

Lynda Campbell also took the prize for the longest drive on the 18th and Val Evans Vale of Glamorgan was nearest the pin, measured at 1.82 metres, on the 2nd hole

A special prize for scoring a 2 went to three players, Sheila Davies of Wenvoe Castle (2nd), Val Evans of the Vale of Glamorgan (15th) and Jen Thomas of Cottrell Park (2nd). Each player received 8 balls.

Immediate Past Club Captain Barrie Jones, together with Trish Walker, Lady Captain, presented the prizes and thanked the members of the Ladies and Seniors Sections for their part in organising the day with special appreciation to Wendy Motton for her management of the event.

Once again the golf course was presented in a magnificent condition and players were highly complementary about the quality of the greens which have a gained a deserved reputation for being the one of best in the region.
