BARRY Athletic bowls club first team kept up their emphatic form with another two wins over a 4 day period.

First up for the Athletic was a re-arranged night game at home to fellow title rivals and Carruthers shield Semi-Finalists, Whitchurch on the August 5.

In a game cut short to 18 ends due to weather conditions and lack of light, it was the Athletic who stamped their authority to lead by 24 shots after just 5 ends, before a heavy rainfall stopped play for around 30 minutes. Despite Whitchurch pleas to get the game abandoned, the weather cleared up and the green maintained a superb surface and the game carried on.

The delay affected the home side slightly but in the end they managed to hold on for another comfortable victory to pick up a valuable 13 points to Whitchurch's 1. Top rink honours for the stags going to Dave Snelling, Paul Webley, Ben Parrish and David Wright, who recorded an excellent 20 shot victory over Junior international, Jonathan Williams and his rink.

Rink Scores:

J Beanland, J Killin, K Harris and M Clarke 18-18

Barry Athletic (13) 90-63 (1) Whitchurch

Next up for Athletic was another home encounter against Pontyclun, who come to Barry deeply involved at the wrong end of the table and knowing any points taken would boost their survival hopes.

However, Barry, missing a number of regular first team members, showed their strength in depth this season to secure another massive victory and pick up the maximum 14 points on offer.

All of the home quartets won comfortably but top dogs for the day were Phil Killin, Dan Jones, Geoff Whittaker and the ever impressive Glyn Thomas, beating Alan Malkin and his rink by 25 shots.

These two victories now mean that the Athletic have won 9 out of 9 in the league since their opening day loss away to St Fagans and look on course to secure promotion in their last 4 games. Barry's impressive season has been built by strong home performances, where they have collected 67 out of a possible 70 points and gutsy and resilient performances away from home.

Barry's second team were without a game last week and neither side are back in action until Saturday, August 23, where they will face Llanbradach in a double encounter.
