BRYNHILL Championship Day first match was played between Shirley Lewis and Linda Hewlett under a cloudless sky with no wind.

President Peter Hayman and a dozen ladies came to support the players.

Their tee shots on the 1st were long and straight, and the hole halved. Over the next 17 holes the lead was taken by both players but on the 18th Shirley was 2 up.

The 2nd session meant a change in the weather,as a blustery and cloudy afternoon unsettled the players. On the 12th Shirley's drive hit a tree and landed on the 11th, but still managed a half. On the 14th Shirley missed a short putt and Linda putted a long one.Linda birded the 16th to make the match all square. They halved the 17th and it all came down to a final putt on the 36th hole. Linda missed hers while Shirley's ball dropped into the hole to win the match.

The Diak-Bronze championship was between lady captain Carole Bumford and Helena Coombes. The supporters were out in force to see both matches from the first tee. Both golfers were playing very steadily, if not on the fairway, then no more than six foot in the rough. The match was very close, neither player more than 2 up, until Carole's ball landed in the muddy waters of the 11th pond, which gave Helena the hole. On the 15th Helena was 2 up, then on the 16th Carole's tee shot landed in the notorious bunker while Helena was just off the green and then putted for a 'gimme'. Helena won the match 3/2.

An entertaining afternoon for everybody.

Fifty ladies attended the evening presentation and dinner which finished a day of sunny weather, friendship, and wonderful golf. Helena and Shirley gave a vote of thanks to the lady captain and all who organised the day, Helena in prose and Shirley in poetry.
