Skipper see’s Barry home

ON Saturday Barry Athletic 1st XI travelled to Miskin Manor on a bright sunny afternoon, Barry won the toss asked their hosts to bat 1st.

Miskin got of to a disastrous start and were soon 17 for 4 as they lost the wickets of Beaverstock Caught by Jones off Frost for 0, Meadon LBW to Gee for 1, Harris Caught Baker off Frost for 0 and Opener Whiteley Stumped by Baker off Frost for 13, after 36 overs the score became 87 for 8, as Rising Star Ferriday Bowled Pritchard for 26, then Usswald picked up 3 wickets Robinson Caught by Jones for 3, Owen caught by Goodway for 4 and Jones caught by Provis for 0, there was then a 80 run partnership for the 9th wicket before Tom Robinson was run out for 63 and as the overs ran out Miskin ended with 168 for 9.

In reply Barry got off to a flying Start as David Goodway hit 24 from 18 balls before he was caught with the score on 29, Paul Murphy then went for 2 with the score on 33 and Aaron Smith for 2 with the score on 35, Steve Provis then produced a cameo hitting 19 in 9 balls with 3 fours and 1 six before he was out with the score on 60, Steve Jones then fell for 0 and Barry were struggling with the score 60 for 5 but then there was a partnership of 65 between Baker and Usswald, Usswald was then out for 30 with the score on 125 for a fine 30, Baker then fell with the score on 145 for a fine, well worked and mature 55, Ferriday went for 0, 1 run later and the score was 146 for 8, But Captain Gee played quite outstanding innings of 18 not out as he and Frost saw the side home with Gee leg glancing the winning runs with a 4, Barry 172 for 8 and a 2 wicket win.

On Saturday Barry Athletic 1st XI are home to Radyr, with the 2nd XI travelling to Blackwood and on Sunday the 3rd XI home to Miskin Manor.

On Saturday, August 16,Barry Athletic are holding a former players/captains and open day all welcome.
