THE Sully Cricket Club Firsts continued their push for a second consecutive promotion with an emphatic six-wicket victory at Monkswood on Saturday.

Inviting the home side to bat, the Sully bowlers soon capitalised on cracks in the wicket, with regulars Morgan (five for 14 from 10 overs) and Loran (one for 26 off 10) applying real pressure. With Sathish (three for seven from seven) and Davies (one for 20 from eight) maintaining the stranglehold, Monkswood were all out for 68. Dan Turnham and 'newbie' Tibin took vital catches.

In reply, Spartans moved steadily towards the winning line and eventually eased home for the loss of four wickets thanks to Dan Brennan with a quickfire 25 and Krishna (17 not out).

MONKSWOOD: 68 all out (Morgan 5-14, Sathish 3-7)

SULLY: 69-4 (D Brennan 25, Krishna 17no)

BIG HITTING BOOST

Following a blank weekend, Sully celebrated getting back on the pitch with a stylish five-wicket Midweek League win over Bay Barbarians.

With a short outfield and fast track, Spartans, bowling first, knew that a chase of anything up to 120 from the allotted 18 overs was achievable.

After 12 overs, the Barbarians' score was 70 for seven, with Koti (2-12), Morgan (2-19), Davies (2-24) and Sathish (1-13), but the last six overs were another story. Fifty-seven runs were added without further loss and this was coupled with six dropped catches. Rather than a jog, the chase was now a sprint.

Father and son Rod and Mike gave Spartans a steady start and, with the good work continued by Brennan and Koti, the score was 74 after 12 overs - not unlike the Barbarians. Enter the big hitters and it was Vijay (with three sixes in his 29 not out) and Nithin (with three boundaries in his unbeaten17) who saw Spartans home in the 16th over.

BAY BARBARIANS: 127-7 (Koti 2-12, Morgan 2-19)

SULLY: 128-5 (Vijay 29no, Nithin 17no)

This week Sully play a Midweek League tonight (Thursday) before a first team league game on Saturday and a match with Barry Wanderers at the hospital ground on Sunday.
