BARRY SAINTS 7

CSKA (Sophia Gardens) 3

DESPITE trailing twice early on, local soccer side Barry Saints maintained their 100 per cent pre-season friendly record with this emphatic scoreline.

After conceding within minutes of the start, Saints hit back immediately when Darren Townsend burst into the box and fired home. Although the local side were playing the better football and making numerous chances, they conceded again after a weak headed back pass.

A firm volley from Andrew Wyatt brought Saints back on level terms and, with half-time approaching, they took ahead when, after some tidy football, Joey Matthews cut in from the left and bent the ball into the top corner from 25 yards. This was quickly followed by a second for Townsend.

Saints made changes for the second half and were immediately punished when poor communication resulted in an easy goal.

However, David Evans restored the two-goal advantage with a sweetly struck shot from 25 yards and Townsend, lobbing the goalkeeper from 30 yards, completed his hat-trick. Michael Evans completed the scoring after converting a one-on-one opportunity.

The club extends its thanks to FitM8, of Park Crescent, Barry, for providing Saints with a match ball for the forthcoming season.
