WITH the Sully Centurions Cricket Club 1st XI fixture falling victim to the weather, the Seconds enjoyed their moment in the spotlight with a convincing 174-run win over local rivals Dinas Powys.

While the undoubted star of the day was Jake Griffett with an unbeaten 156, the victory in a one-sided affair at Burnham Avenue was the product of a fine team performance.

Batting first, Centurions' openers Ben Callow (23) and Dan Chaulk (37) shared a half century partnership before the latter was bowled by Hiscocks. This brought J Griffett to the crease and, continuing a fine run of form, he despatched the visiting attack to all corners. After Callow departed with the score on 104, Jake was joined by brother Ricky and they put of 103 for the third wicket before the latter departed for a well-crafted 44. Josh Bryan and Adam Gilliatt were both victims of Evans, with the scoreboard on 215, before Lloyd Bruce and Griffett shared an unbeaten stand of 104 to steer the final total to a phenomenal 319 for five after 45 overs.

After tea, Emma Davies (1-13) and Jo Hayer (2-16) put a stranglehold on the Dinas openers, with the visitors taking 10 overs to reach 20 runs. Ricky Griffett , who returned figure of nought for 29 off nine overs, and Tom Pascoe (2-17) continued the good work to leave Dinas at 57 for five at the halfway stage. The returning Bryan chipped in with the wicket of Evans before Storey (21) and Ford (44) frustrated the home bowlers and dug in for a half century partnership. After Bruce finally dismissed Storey with the scoreboard showing 115 for seven, Callow nabbed two late wickets and the visitors ended on 145 for nine.
